Called mom and she said this is correct. He was married twice first time to a Mary, and Irish woman and she died and he went back to Italy from West Virginia, and married my grand-mother Amelia,a beautiful little Italian woman. How I miss her smile and kisses. Gosh I fogot how many kids he had when you start throwing in the ones from first marriage. You made my mom`s day and she kept asking more about her mom and I don`t think she understands how hard it is for me not knowing the knowledge of how to find genealogy. You guys are a blessing.

re: Orazio on 1913 manifest
Mis-spellings were not unusual on manifests.
One possibility:
If the person couldn't read or write they couldn't
check the spelling of their name on the manifest.
Not sure what the 'americanized version' of your
grandfather's name would have been.
Perhaps a census will help.
------------------
possible brother:
1901 manifest
18 Mar 1901 SS California Naples to NY
line 25
Raffaele Martinis, 24, married
mason
last residence Guardavalle
joining brother Agazo Martinis in Philadelphia (same location as 1900 manifest)

This was his brother Ralph.Mom confirmed this.

So I believe that Orazio must be him just spelled totally different.

Helen,
your g-grandmother's surname?
That's a tough one.
Answer for sure in Italian records ...

In the meantime, did any of your grandmother's
brother's or sisters come to the US.
Possible their mother's name could be listed on
their manifest as 'relative in Italy'

I was just going to post.grand-mom Amelia or AMALIA had a brother named Eugene.,and one named Albert. The one Eugene you had that died in Utah was mom`s brother. They called him James. Making sence now.I just remember his barber shop when I was little.I think he died before my teens.

Grand-moms mom`s name was also Amelia 0r Amalia.Still no last name.Mom dosen`t know that. You should hear the excitement in her voice everytime I get an e-mail.Mom lives in Florida.
